I have been very fortunate to have been able to travel abroad while in high school. In my freshman year, I hosted a student Yvon from France and was able to travel to Montrouge outside of Paris for two weeks and stay with Rose and her family. We visited the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, Giverny, Normandy and many other places during our stay. Springtime in Paris….oui!!
In my sophomore year, I traveled to Germany, also visiting Prague in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. I made a lifelong friend in my German exchange partner Lena, and look forward to returning to Cologne to see her and her family.
In my Junior year, I had saved up my money and planned a return to France with the HSE Peace Program with whom I traveled to Montrouge, France in my freshman year. Tragically our plans were interrupted by the events of November, 13th 2015 and the Paris attacks with the loss of 130 lives. Thankfully both Yvon and Rose and their families including Rose’s father who is a Paris police officer were all okay. The school district canceled all trips abroad for the foreseeable future.
