A wonderful stop on our return to Paris. our tour guide was a marvel of information, organization, energy, and fun. She managed to get us through crowds with ease, and showed us incredible amount of art, architecture, and history, without ever making us feel rushed. Versailles is a palace not to be missed, but this tour is certainly the way to see it.
After touring the palace proper, we had the opportunity to stroll on our own through the gardens to the Grand Canal.
We reassembled for lunch at a charming restaurant by the Grand Canal. Our meals were very good, and the atmosphere was a delight. The service was very friendly.
From lunch we continued our tour on to the Grand Trianon and the Queen’s Hamlet. Since these were less crowded the pace slowed, but the interest and beauty did not flag in the least. Our teachers continued to give both overviews and point out fascinating details of architecture, art, and history. These lesser-known areas were a great way to finish a fantastic day.
The visit to Mont-Saint-Michel, a medieval walled city was a lifetime experience and I definitely want to go back and see it again even though as a popular tourist attraction it was quite crowded. If you travel to Mont-Saint-Michel, you must visit the cathedral it’s amazing how it was built on the rocks. First you must take a lot of steps to the top (to the cathedral) and afterwards you walk down inside the building to the bottom level. Besides the cathedral you’ll manage to see the cellars and also the tricky way they managed to get the supplies into the monastery. It’s also worthwhile to take a walk around the walls of the fortress to get a fantastic view on the surrounding area. We had 3 hours to walk on the top of the walls, have lunch and explore many boutiques.
The beaches of Normandy were amazing and one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I can’t believe that we are leaving at the end of this week. I’ve spent so much time with all these wonderful people I am going to miss them all so much. I’m going to have so much homework when I get back home but you have to do what you have to do.
