Raping up camp this week was hard but it ended with a bang. Both performances of Once On This Island Jr. went amazingly well. These kids are just amazing I can’t wait to see some of them on Broadway someday, I also can’t wait to see a lot if them staring in the high school shows this year or whenever they are in high school. Once on this island is a wonderful show about love, life, family, and death. Many people aren’t familiar with the show but it has a wonderful storyline and beautiful music. Ti Moune (played by Brook Mahoney) and Daniel Beauxomme (played by Matt Joseph) cross worlds and fall in love while the gods decide their future Asaka mother of the earth (played by Lauren DiCocco) Agwe God of water (played by Zach Simpson) Erzulie beautiful Goddess of love (played by Hannah Compa) and Papa Ge, sly Demon of Death (played by Emily Gallinger). Not all stories have a happy ending, but camp this week did. To the graduating campers, Its been a fun time but I can’t wait to see what you do next keep me up to date I’ll always see your shows. My favorite part of camp by far was before the show when the staff performed One Day More from Les Miserables for the audience. I can’t wait to see what we do next!
We had the culmination of the past two weeks of camp with the performances of High School Musical. Both performances were well attended and came off without any major issues. These kids are absolutely amazing; they work so hard from the first day of camp which is auditions to the last day when we have our two performances. Our staff works hard too! Many of our staff become stage crew and work backstage to make sure the show runs smoothly. We have our own choreographer Andi Ralph and music director Dan Lyng. Both are Shen grads who love doing shows and spending time with the campers. A lot of the kids who came to camp last year came back this year and it was lovely to see many familiar faces and some new ones too! The parts of Chad and Taylor were played by Brooks Madison and Julieta Feleder they were both amazing. Troy and Gabriella were played by Jon Maltz and Willow Brower who were the real stars of the show and blew everyone away with their amazing onstage chemistry! All 75 of the kids that were up on that stage where part of something that turned out amazingly. This Friday we have performances for a “little kid” camp at 12pm and 3pm their show is “101 Dalmatians”. Then the Friday after we have our performances of “Once on this Island” which is being directed by Marc de la Concha (pictured below in the baseball hat). So far camp has been amazing this year I can’t wait for that the next 2 weeks have in store for us.
